91Ô´´ Learning Standards for Languages Other Than English (1996)
In 1986, the 91Ô´´ State Education Department had adoptedÌýModern Languages for Communication.Ìý This document was redefined as the 91Ô´´ÌýLearning Standards for Languages Other Than English (LOTE)Ìýas part of the 91Ô´´ Compact for Learning initiative in 1996.
These standards are being phased out as the 91Ô´´ Learning Standards for World Languages (2021) are phased in.Ìý In 2025-26, the LOTE (1996) standards apply only to the second year of Checkpoint B and both years of Checkpoint C.Ìý In 2026-27, the 1996 LOTE standards apply only to Checkpoint C.Ìý Starting in September of 2028, the 1996 LOTE standards will be completely phased out and all 91Ô´´ schools will use the 91Ô´´ Learning Standards for World Languages (2021) for all levels K-12.
Below are three reference documents from the 1996 standards.Ìý These are provided for historical purposes.Ìý When developing curricula, units, lessons, and assessments, educators should use the 91Ô´´ Learning Standards for World Languages (2021) and associated resources according to the implementation timeline.
